Ocean County College one of the first community colleges in the Northeastern United States to develop science courses totally online with both content and laboratory being directed via distance learning. Attention Pre-Nursing Students:

This course is ideal for the student who did not have biology in high school or needs a good refresher course before entering Anatomy and Physiology. This is recommended over BIOL 114 for entrance into the OCC nursing program.

Course Description

BIOL 119
Nature of Science and the Human Body

4 credits (3 + 2)

A one semester laboratory course for non-science majors focused on the nature of Science as a field of inquiry. Emphasis is on the scientific method as a natural outcom of human curiosity. The human body acts as a vehicle to explore the unity of life. Critical thinking is stressed as preparation to fully enjoy a society shaped largely by Science and Technology. Current trends and/or news articles are incorporated for their topics and exploration of methods used to obtain conclusions.

Who should take this course online?

• Advanced placement or highly motivated high school students who wish to get a jump start on OCC's nursing program.
• Students who work full time and find it difficult to attend classes face-to-face because of time constraints.
• You must be an excellent student who is comfortable with computers.
• You should be a self starter and good at following directions.
• You should have excellent reading comprehension skills. Students who are in developmental courses should not take this course online.
