The Office of Disability Services values disability as another component of the diversity found at Ocean County College. Disability can take many different forms – some are apparent while others are not. We strive to promote an appreciation of every student and the unique strengths, ideologies, and attributes they bring with them.
According to the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, a disability is a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Major life activities include but are not limited to, performing manual tasks, seeing, hearing, sleeping, walking, standing, lifting, bending, speaking, breathing, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, communicating, and working.
Some general examples of disabilities we accommodate include but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, PTSD, hearing/vision/mobility conditions, chronic illnesses, psychological diagnoses, learning disabilities, ADHD, traumatic brain injury, and Autism.
If you’re not sure whether you identify as having a disability or if you’d qualify for accommodations, simply call our office or click to email and someone from our office will be happy to speak with you!
