Calling all high school students, music teachers, and music aficionados! This fall, the Grunin Center (formerly Arts & Community Center) at Ocean County College will offer two Master Classes featuring singer Natalie Weiss and composer/lyricist Neil Berg. Ocean County high school students are invited to audition to participate in the Master Classes. Ocean County music teachers, students, and community members are also invited to observe.
“There are a lot of exciting things happening at OCC this fall,” explained Mark Wilson, OCC College Lecturer and Artistic Director of the Grunin Spotlight Series. “First, a new degree program in performing arts is starting this semester. Next, through a generous donation by the Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation, the College will be bringing world-renowned artists in the performing, fine, and visual arts to Ocean County. And third, our new Master Classes will kick off with Natalie Weiss and Neil Berg.”
OCC’s year-long series of Master Classes are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from the “masters,” those performers who have struggled to learn their craft and make it big in theatre, music, and art.
On Mon, October 6 at 2:00 p.m., singer Natalie Weiss will present her Master Class. As an “American Idol” season four semi-finalist, Weiss dazzles audiences with Broadway and pop covers. Coming off a two-year tour in Les Miserables, Weiss gained an international following through her web series, “Breaking Down the Riffs.”
Neil Berg will present his Master Class on Thurs, October 30 at 1:00 p.m. Berg is the composer/lyricist of the hit Off-Broadway musical The Prince and the Pauper and composed film scores for Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn and Searching for Bobby D. He is co-owner of SJR Theater Workshop, a theater camp in Montvale, NJ.
STUDENT PARTICIPATION: Ocean County high school students and OCC students must audition to participate in the Master Classes. Auditions are held on Tues, September 23 and Thurs, September 25 in the Grunin Center Main Stage, OCC Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.
