New Pathways to Teaching in NJ (NPTNJ) Alternate Route
MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND CHANGE YOUR LIFE! BECOME A TEACHER!
WHAT IS NEW PATHWAYS TO TEACHING IN NEW JERSEY? (NPTNJ)
NPTNJ is a partnership between New Jersey City University and Ocean County College.
NPTNJ offers an alternate route teacher preparation program designed to provide candidates with the skills and strategies necessary to become excellent, successful teachers. Candidates take NPTNJ coursework at OCC either on campus or as a hybrid program. The program provides a process for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) to become licensed teachers without having to complete a traditional teacher training program. The NPTNJ program is regulated and approved by the N.J. Department of Education (DOE).

Teachers can earn professional development hours or continuing education units by attending AP Workshops and Summer Institutes which are offered through a partnership between Ocean County College and the College Board.
The workshops are designed to support the new or experienced teacher in every aspect of AP course content, organization, and methodology. For administrators and other education professionals, workshops address fundamental issues faced in introducing, developing, and sustaining an AP Program at your institution.
