Ghettoization marked the first phase of Jewish isolation and destruction Women in the ghettos struggled to feed their families and create a sense of normalcy in the face of constant uncertainty. The final phase was deportation to concentration and death camps where women endured beatings, rape, starvation, and forced labor. Yet many of these women created informal mutual assistance groups which facilitated survival through sharing information, food, and clothing.  Prayer service to follow.
